Bonus Ep 1 - Playing Games On Summer Vacation With Some Quick Music-Inspired Tales Of Nonsense
[00:00:00.000] - Adrienne
Hey there, Listeners.
[00:00:02.340] - Katarina
Howdee do de?
[00:00:03.460] - Adrienne
Sup? We are here today for a very exciting... very loose...uh...episode--
[00:00:14.320] - Katarina
You sound so enthused.
[00:00:17.970] - Adrienne
So it's the summer. We're chilling.
[00:00:21.130] - Katarina
We're chilling.
[00:00:22.300] - Adrienne
I'm vibing. I'm blissed out. Anyway. So, uh, gals and ghouls... It's not that time of year yet--
[00:00:33.880] - Katarina
But I said it last time and I would like to adapt it anyway, because that's just who we are. So--
[00:00:39.960] - Adrienne
Gals, ghouls and, um... Everything else.
[00:00:43.720] - Katarina
Fools.
[00:00:43.720] - Adrienne
Gals, ghouls and fools.
[00:00:48.240] - Katarina
(Laughs)
[00:00:48.240] - Adrienne
I like that. Gals, ghouls and fools.
[00:00:50.540] - Katarina
I love it.
[00:00:51.480] - Adrienne
We out here! Today, we are like we said, it's a loose, short fun, breezy lazy... uh, Thursday. I almost said Sunday. It's not.
[00:01:07.400] - Katarina
Yes, it's not Sunday. I almost had heart attack. I was like, wait a minute.
[00:01:13.160] - Adrienne
I'm struggling.
[00:01:14.440] - Katarina
"Wait a minute. Sunday? AAH!"
[00:01:18.030] - Adrienne
Yeah. Anyway, today we're going to be doing something fun and a little different. We're gonna be playing a game.
[00:01:26.700] - Katarina
A game!
[00:01:27.860] - Adrienne
A game!
[00:01:29.540] - Katarina
Yes. We're gonna stop playing games with your hearts and heads and start playing games...
[00:01:35.900] - Adrienne
We're still going to play games with your hearts and heads. But this time it's an actual game you can buy, so you can play this yourself.
[00:01:48.640] - Katarina
Exactly.
[00:01:50.320] - Adrienne
Katia, would you like to explain what we're going to be doing today?
[00:01:54.920] - Katarina
Gee willikers, I sure would (laughs)!
[00:02:01.180] - Adrienne
Oh, boy!
[00:02:02.780] - Katarina
Oh, boy! So, today we are going to be playing a game called Rory's Story Cubes. Wish we were sponsored, but we're not. I received this game many years ago as a Christmas present, and I never touched it because nobody wants to play games with me, is what I learned. But there are really no rules to this game, which makes it fun. It's nine cubes. They're supposed to be nine cubes. I have lost one of my cubes, but.. Nine cubes with different pictures on them. You roll them. And basically, the way we are going to be playing it is, we will pick a song that will inspire a story, much like our normal format. And we will each take a Cube and do kind of like popcorn storytelling, where we will decide, "okay, I'm done with the story. It's your turn!" We'll go down the line of cubes to see which picture will inspire us. And at the end, we will have something.
[00:03:13.620] - Adrienne
(laughs)
[00:03:13.620] - Katarina
I don't know what we'll have.
[00:03:17.520] - Adrienne
Will it be good? We don't know.
[00:03:21.360] - Katarina
(Non-committal noise). We've done a test run. We kind of know what we're doing. Kind of.
[00:03:27.090] - Adrienne
Eh.
[00:03:29.500] - Katarina
And now all that's left is to actually play the game. Are you going to roll? Or am I going-- you have to roll. You have nine cubes. I have eight.
[00:03:41.200] - Adrienne
Yes, I will roll. Should we pick a song before I roll or after?
[00:03:46.560] - Katarina
No, before. Definitely before.
[00:03:49.500] - Adrienne
So what song are we going to do?
[00:03:53.630] - Katarina
Definitely one that's easy. Definitely one that we both know.
[00:04:01.430] - Adrienne
So should we do it the way we did it the last time we tried to play this game?
[00:04:07.340] - Katarina
How did we do it last time? Just-
[00:04:11.060] - Adrienne
We picked a playlist.
[00:04:15.440] - Katarina
Okay, let's do that. Let's do that. We'll pick a playlist--
[00:04:18.650] - Adrienne
And we just put it on shuffle.
[00:04:20.540] - Katarina
You just put it on shuffle. Unless we don't like the song, then we go, "I don't like it."
[00:04:26.210] - Adrienne
Alright.
[00:04:27.270] - Katarina
You pick.
[00:04:28.780] - Adrienne
Okay. What playlist should I use?
[00:04:31.720] - Katarina
You can use the guilty pleasure playlist.
[00:04:34.860] - Adrienne
Oh, yes, let's do it. Okay. Where are you? Where are you? There it is. Alright, so I'm going to put it on shuffle.
[00:04:50.510] - Katarina
Okay. (laughs) What?
[00:04:53.160] - Adrienne
The next one is "Talk Dirty" by Jason Derulo.
[00:05:00.960] - Katarina
Well, we both know that song.
[00:05:03.360] - Adrienne
We do both know that song.
[00:05:05.220] - Katarina
You want-- do you want to do or do you want to skip it? I'm easy. Either way.
[00:05:09.540] - Adrienne
I want to see what the next one is. Alright, no, it can't be that. Alright, the next one was a Stereo Skyline song. And then the one after that was "Trouble" by Never Shout Never.
[00:05:26.820] - Katarina
Okay.
[00:05:27.870] - Adrienne
So, I feel like "Talk Dirty" is the one that you probably know of those, so... We're doing "Talk Dirty." So.
[00:05:41.840] - Katarina
"Talk dirty to me."
[00:05:43.360] - Adrienne
"Talk dirty to me, baby."
[00:05:43.360] - Katarina
(singing the song)
[00:05:47.970] - Adrienne
Alright, I'm going to roll.
[00:05:51.220] - Katarina
Please do.
[00:05:55.620] - Adrienne
(Beat) Do you know how hard it is to roll nine dice?
[00:05:58.460] - Katarina
I do. We need, like a cup. So we just shake.
[00:06:04.520] - Adrienne
Also, I didn't realize that I look -- (mimes a dirty gesture)
[00:06:06.900] - Katarina
(mimes a dirty gesture and laughs)
[00:06:14.310] - Adrienne
All right. I'm twelve. Okay. (rolls dice) Alrighty.
[00:06:28.480] - Katarina
Alright!
[00:06:30.450] - Adrienne
Let me line these up... what the? What is-- Oh. For-- For a second. I was like, "I don't know what that is!"
[00:06:41.980] - Katarina
Oh!
[00:06:41.980] - Adrienne
Then I realized that... Oh, God. Okay, I will take a picture of this and then you can tell me if you're like, "I don't like this. Roll again."
[00:07:00.290] - Katarina
Okay.
[00:07:02.260] - Adrienne
All right. Sent. So Listeners, we have a, uh... A moon, a flashlight, a fish--
[00:07:19.010] - Katarina
A tropical-ish fish.
[00:07:20.570] - Adrienne
A tropical-ish fish, yes. A Padlock.
[00:07:25.100] - Katarina
Mmhmm.
[00:07:25.100] - Adrienne
A cane?
[00:07:26.660] - Katarina
Yes.
[00:07:27.590] - Adrienne
A fountain.
[00:07:28.850] - Katarina
Mhmm.
[00:07:28.850] - Adrienne
A Scarab Beetle looking thing.
[00:07:34.640] - Katarina
Yup.
[00:07:34.640] - Adrienne
A speech bubble and rainbow.
[00:07:39.680] - Katarina
Great.
[00:07:41.810] - Adrienne
So--
[00:07:41.810] - Katarina
Great. And the song is "Talk Dirty to Me."
[00:07:46.720] - Adrienne
And the song is "Talk Dirty to Me."
[00:07:53.000] - Katarina
Alright.
[00:07:58.820] - Both
(laugh)
[00:07:58.820] - Katarina
We discussed this last time. How many minutes should we have?
[00:08:04.870] - Adrienne
I think we said two minutes per cube?
[00:08:08.690] - Katarina
Two minutes per cube. Two times nine is 18. Yeah, that's fine.
[00:08:13.990] - Adrienne
Alright.
[00:08:15.000] - Katarina
I'll time you.
[00:08:17.500] - Adrienne
Okay.
[00:08:20.050] - Katarina
How do I time on this phone? Oh, I figured it out. (a beat) Okay!
[00:08:32.060] - Adrienne
Okay. Are you timing me?
[00:08:35.060] - Katarina
You're starting, I assume, right?
[00:08:38.300] - Adrienne
Yeah.
[00:08:39.410] - Katarina
Yeah? Yeah.
[00:08:39.940] - Adrienne
Yeah.
[00:08:41.440] - Katarina
Hold on. Let me... I'm getting the Cubes on my screen so that I'm not like, glancing down every...
[00:08:55.720] - Adrienne
(Laughs)
[00:08:55.720] - Katarina
Alright. Cubes! Got 'em. Alright. And three, two, one. Go.
[00:09:04.140] - Adrienne
Okay. Um. So our story begins on a moonlit stroll in the park.
[00:09:14.440] - Katarina
Okay.
[00:09:15.540] - Adrienne
Alright. It's just one of those nights, when our strapping young, uh, gentlemen, Eric--
[00:09:36.590] - Katarina
(snorts)
[00:09:36.590] - Adrienne
--decides, "I have all this pent up energy and I just need to take a walk." Life's been hard--
[00:09:49.620] - Katarina
Okay.
[00:09:49.620] - Adrienne
You know? At his high pressure job of being a sous chef at one of the top restaurants in New York City.
[00:10:01.080] - Katarina
Sure! So he's walking in Central Park at night?
[00:10:04.230] - Adrienne
Yes.
[00:10:05.500] - Katarina
Okay.
[00:10:09.800] - Adrienne
And so. (laughs) So he's staring at the trees in the part and wondering, "God, you know, I just. I need to let loose. I need something exciting in my life because my life is just plates of risotto." And--
[00:10:39.890] - Katarina
(laughs) Risotto! Wait. What?
[00:10:44.620] - Adrienne
Life as a sous chef isn't exciting enough for him. (mumbles something unintelligible) How much time do I have?
[00:10:57.450] - Katarina
7,6,5-
[00:10:57.450] - Adrienne
Oh.
[00:10:57.450] - Katarina
4,3,2,1. Thank you. (laughs)
[00:11:15.170] - Adrienne
(laughs) Let me get my timer, I'll time you.
[00:11:17.520] - Katarina
Okay.
[00:11:18.970] - Adrienne
Okay. Ready?
[00:11:23.200] - Katarina
Yup.
[00:11:23.200] - Adrienne
Three, two, one go.
[00:11:25.480] - Katarina
Yeah. So we, we-- Eric! Things have been hard for Eric, our sous chef. So hard, in fact, that he thinks taking a walk at night in Central Park is a good idea. "I'm a New Yorker," he says. "I can do anything! Baddah bing. Hey, I'm walking here," he says to no one in particular because... This is night time. It's 2 AM, in fact. And he's walking through Central Park. And as the moonlight filters through, he wanders around, see the rocks and the overgrown trees and bushes. And he thinks how nice it would be to run away to live in nature instead of being living the high, fast paced life that is of a sous chef. But suddenly, as he is sitting on a rock staring down into one of the many tiny lakes, he hears something cracking behind him. Like a branch. Could it be one of the famous rabid New York squirrels he's heard so much about growing up? No, those are just children's stories his Grand-mama used to tell him to keep him from going out at night. But still he cannot control his racing heartbeat as he turns his flashlight around! How much more time do I have?
[00:12:49.600] - Adrienne
35 seconds.
[00:12:53.920] - Katarina
He turns his flashlight around and he sees nothing. And he wonders, "Should I be in the park all night by myself?" And that's when something jumps out of the water behind him.
[00:13:11.870] - Adrienne
...12 seconds.
[00:13:13.440] - Katarina
He gasps in terror at his newfound State of Wetness. (laughing)
[00:13:18.270] - Adrienne
What?!
[00:13:22.710] - Katarina
They jumped out of the water!
[00:13:23.770] - Adrienne
They jumped out of the wa-- it jumped--wait.
[00:13:28.020] - Katarina
Something jumped out of the water. And he got wet.
[00:13:31.570] - Adrienne
So, this--? Okay.
[00:13:39.840] - Katarina
(laughs) He thought something was behind him, but something was in the water.
[00:13:47.600] - Adrienne
Okay. Alright.
[00:13:47.600] - Katarina
Tell me when.
[00:13:49.120] - Adrienne
Go. Go. Go.
[00:13:49.440] - Katarina
Go? Go.
[00:13:54.580] - Adrienne
Okay. "Ah!" He gasps. What is this?
[00:14:04.120] - Katarina
Oh.
[00:14:07.120] - Adrienne
Suddenly standing before him is of all things, a...Fisherman. And Eric is puzzled. He's like, "why... Is a fisherman in central park?"
[00:14:40.180] - Katarina
Underwater.
[00:14:41.330] - Adrienne
Underwater... At night? But...
[00:14:46.370] - Katarina
But?
[00:14:48.580] - Adrienne
The fisherman says nothing. He just quietly hands him a fish...and says, "Son. This fish is the key to your destiny...follow the fish--"
[00:15:19.020] - Katarina
30 seconds.
[00:15:20.980] - Adrienne
And so Eric turns the fish over in his hand as the fisherman disappears into the night and while Eric ponders just what the hell happened. He stares at the fish and suddenly he hears a voice behind him.
[00:15:49.400] - Katarina
OH--!
[00:15:49.400] - Adrienne
And it's a striking, beautiful airy female voice--
[00:15:54.940] - Katarina
Time's up. Time's up.
[00:16:03.570] - Adrienne
And then... I just-- I feel like we need to get back to the song? Somehow.
[00:16:15.990] - Katarina
Somehow.
[00:16:15.990] - Adrienne
Alright. Tell me when you're ready.
[00:16:19.020] - Katarina
Damn. Okay. What is the last thing you said was there was a voice behind him.
[00:16:25.450] - Adrienne
There's an airy female voice behind him, as he's turning over--
[00:16:29.980] - Katarina
Why?!
[00:16:30.560] - Adrienne
The fish in his hands.
[00:16:33.510] - Katarina
Okay.
[00:16:35.730] - Adrienne
Alright. Ready?
[00:16:39.570] - Katarina
Sure.
[00:16:41.440] - Adrienne
Go.
[00:16:50.760] - Katarina
(sighs) Eric, the sous chef, turns at the sound of the airy, female voice behind him. It is not a sound he hears often, as working in a kitchen requires lots of shouting and swearing. And he does not often hear tender, kind, soft words or even sounds. Eric is still frightened by his encounter with the fisherman, so he reacts wildly. "Ay, bada-bing! Who goes there?" He says.
[00:17:29.730] - Adrienne
...Why?
[00:17:36.500] - Katarina
But the airy voice is not-- oh, are you timing me? I'm not timing myself.
[00:17:42.120] - Adrienne
I'm timing you. Keep going. You have a minute.
[00:17:48.940] - Katarina
The airy voice that he thinks is at first female woman behind him... Is in fact the fish. And the fish says...
[00:18:12.500] - Adrienne
What does the fish say, Katia? Tell me. What does the fish say?
[00:18:17.190] - Katarina
The fish says...(long pause due to silent laughter)
[00:18:17.190] - Adrienne
You have 13 seconds. Spit it out.
[00:18:37.640] - Katarina
Regardez mon visage, monsieur. Je suis un poisson. Je voudrais... (laughs)
[00:18:44.760] - Adrienne
What does that mean, Katia?! (laughs) I don't speak French, Katia! What does it mean?! What does it mean?! I feel like Brad Pitt in Seven. "What's in the box?!"
[00:19:07.260] - Katarina
(laughs) It means whatever you want it to mean, because he doesn't speak French.
[00:19:13.930] - Adrienne
Also, what does that have to do with a padlock?
[00:19:17.380] - Katarina
I was trying. I couldn't get the words out. So. It-it--The key is unlocked. (laughs) I don't know.
[00:19:33.820] - Adrienne
Oh my God.
[00:19:33.820] - Katarina
I lose a point because I couldn't get the cube to work.
[00:19:40.260] - Adrienne
Oh...
[00:19:44.770] - Katarina
(laughs) Okay. I'm gonna time you now, three, two, one. Go.
[00:20:05.660] - Adrienne
Bewildered, Eric stares at the fish and wonders, Why the hell did it speak French to me? Because I don't speak French. I'm just sous chef from New York. But...That's okay because suddenly the fish vomits up a padlock.
[00:20:37.260] - Katarina
(laughs) Just locked behind a language barrier. English is behind a Paywall.
[00:20:45.570] - Adrienne
And this... this padlock has a tag on it that reads, Find the Old Woman at the gazebo. And so, away he goes to find a woman at the gazebo, and suddenly it dawns on him. "When was the last time I saw a gazebo in Central Park? I don't know if there is one."
[00:21:36.840] - Katarina
(coughs from laughter)
[00:21:36.840] - Adrienne
He starts combing through the park looking for a gazebo. And as he's rushing through the park, he finally spots one off in the distance, where he sees an old woman hobbling around just up the steps with her cane.
[00:22:06.990] - Katarina
I'm... (laughs)
[00:22:19.750] - Adrienne
This has nothing to do with Jason Derulo. All right. Are you ready?
[00:22:30.720] - Katarina
I guess. I guess. I guess. "Find the old woman." Okay. So, Eric, our intrepid sous chef has found the old woman that the fish's magic padlock told him to find. But for what purpose? What purpose indeed could he have wanted to find Griselda, the old lady of the park gazebo that only appears at 2:00 to 05:00 a.m. Griselda looks down, and then she says, "Ah, I see you have ze fish. You have ze magic poisson." And he goes, "What are you talking about, lady? I don't speak no French." And she says to him, "but you see." And she takes a derisive puff of her cigarette because all French people, they smoke. "You stupid American. Don't you know you what have here? You have ze key to changing your entire life! To finding love and great sex! And living with ze joie de vivre as we say in France." (laughs) I don't smoke. "Ah! Don't you see what you must do? What did ze fish tell you?" "I don't know what the fish told me I'll speak no... I don't speak no French." How much time do I have left?
[00:24:03.440] - Adrienne
30 seconds.
[00:24:05.710] - Katarina
Shit. And she says to him, "you see what you must do? You must go to Rome. You must fly to Italy. You know why? Because there is a magic fountain there. The Trevi Fountain. And if you throw three coins in the fountain, you shall be guaranteed to return. And you need to broaden your Horizons to explore, maybe meet a beautiful international femme fatale. Who knows? And find the key to the lock. Because that is important. The luck represents your femininity, your feminine side. Unlock it."
[00:24:42.500] - Adrienne
Oh. God. Okay. Okay. Alright. Okay, Griselda.
[00:25:07.740] - Katarina
(laughs) Okay. Go.
[00:25:27.340] - Adrienne
So. Eric stares at this woman who's told him that he will find great sex in Rome. He thinks to himself... "But I was supposed to cook the most elaborate dinner tonight for the. Um. The Mayor. Of... Nashville. What am I going to do? Should I follow my heart or follow my paycheck? Which is telling me to do this." But... As he ponders this, he looks down at the ground and sees a lone scarab beetle crawling on his foot. And it startles him, so he screams bloody murder in the middle of Central Park at like 03:00 in the morning, which in some ways is ill advised. But he cannot help himself. So he does it. And all of a sudden, fortunately for him, instead of some person who means him harm, hearing him, a beautiful woman pops out of the bushes.
[00:27:39.500] - Katarina
Time's up... Okay, beautiful woman pops out of the bushes. Sure.
[00:27:48.400] - Adrienne
Alright. Go.
[00:27:49.650] - Katarina
And I have a speech bubble.
[00:27:51.710] - Adrienne
Yup. Go.
[00:27:53.740] - Katarina
Eric, the sous chef, is shocked by the appearance of this beautiful naked woman that he has just... popped up from the bushes. He goes, "AYY, BUD--"
[00:28:12.580] - Adrienne
(laughing) Why is she naked?! Why is she naked?!
[00:28:12.580] - Katarina
He just says, "Hey! I'm walkin' here! Why don't you got no clothes on, you silly dame?" And she said. (laughs) And she says. "Hey, you know that silly Beauty and the Beast story of the person who, you know, falls in love with the beautiful one. And there's the ugly one who is cursed to be ugly becomes a beautiful woman at the end? Check your left hand." And then he does. And it turns out that the fish is gone. And he says, "Oi! How did this happen?" She goes, "don't you see, you silly man? When you decided in your heart to choose to go to find love in Italy, but you were unsure about taking the advice of the goblin woman who lives in Central Park...Griselda. She was trying to trick you because love was under your nose this whole time. The key... was simply talking dirty to me." (coughs and laughs)
[00:29:54.820] - Adrienne
Ahhh....aaaaugh
[00:30:01.080] - Katarina
And so Eric says, "oh boy, yippee!"
[00:30:08.020] - Adrienne
Your time is done. Oh, okay. Alright, okay. Mmhmm. All right. Alright. Start my time.
[00:30:34.440] - Katarina
Go.
[00:30:40.920] - Adrienne
"Talking dirty? To you?" Eric says surprised, at more than one thing that's occurred this night. But as he looks over this beautiful, strange, naked woman in the park, he does realize that he could in fact talk dirty. So he says, "alright, I shall do what you have asked of me. But first, let's find you some fucking clothes. So we can go to Rome together."
[00:31:28.870] - Katarina
Beautiful.
[00:31:30.310] - Adrienne
So they somehow make it out of the park. After Eric politely gives his jacket to the naked woman so she doesn't have to walk naked through New York City. And he takes her back to his apartment. He gives her some clothes she puts on. He packs a bag and goes on his computer and books two tickets to Rome. And--
[00:32:21.400] - Katarina
15 seconds! No, 10--
[00:32:26.210] - Adrienne
As they dash to the airport, a rainbow appears in the sky as they're taxi-ing off, he looks to her and says, "every...uh. Can I have your number? I will save it on my phone under big booty." The end.
[00:32:53.380] - Katarina
(claps) There it is. Beautiful. What a riveting fairy tale. And that just goes to show, kids, that sometimes your true love is the magic fish given to you at two in the morning in Central Park by a fisherman. Love comes in all forms, shapes and sizes. Truly, that's the lesson here today.
[00:33:19.450] - Adrienne
Chaos. This was chaos.
[00:33:26.740] - Katarina
(laughs)
[00:33:26.740] - Adrienne
God has abandoned us.
[00:33:30.720] - Katarina
I don't know what you mean. We got a great old Beauty and the Beast story out of it. She was a magic fish that vomited a padlock.
[00:33:40.850] - Adrienne
Why was she naked?
[00:33:42.690] - Katarina
Because she was a fish. You think when she turns back into a human, she's got clothes on? That was my one problem with like every, like, time, like the Hulk or anytime you see, like a werewolf transform and they turn back and they've got pants on? No, they don't. They ripped out of those clothes. She just... swam out of hers. Of course she'd be naked.
[00:34:08.040] - Adrienne
Okay. Um. So you know, this had nothing to do with Jason Derulo.
[00:34:18.490] - Katarina
We got lost. Yeah, we got very lost.
[00:34:21.280] - Adrienne
Very, very lost.
[00:34:23.410] - Katarina
We tried.
[00:34:24.400] - Adrienne
We tried to save it at the end. Yeah.
[00:34:29.190] - Katarina
We probably failed.
[00:34:32.110] - Adrienne
We failed epically. We set the rules of the game and we failed.
[00:34:37.060] - Katarina
We set the rules. We both lost. That's what we're saying. Should we play again?
[00:34:45.580] - Adrienne
Um...Yes.
[00:34:47.180] - Katarina
Yes? Okay. You get two stories this episode because we're bad at our jobs.
[00:34:53.540] - Adrienne
'Cause we fucked up, guys.
[00:34:56.290] - Katarina
Alright, let's do it again.
[00:34:59.150] - Adrienne
So let's pick another song. Maybe not "Talk Dirty."
[00:35:04.750] - Katarina
That was too difficult.
[00:35:06.190] - Adrienne
It was too hard. Do you want to stick with this playlist or? What?
[00:35:12.340] - Katarina
No.
[00:35:13.850] - Adrienne
No. Okay. How about our road trip playlist?
[00:35:21.120] - Katarina
That's a good idea. I like that plan.
[00:35:24.360] - Adrienne
Okay, let's shuffle play... Oh, you probably don't know this song. Okay. The song that came up was "Live & Let Go" by Paper & Places.
[00:35:39.160] - Katarina
Hmmm.
[00:35:41.110] - Adrienne
Don't know it, right?
[00:35:42.340] - Katarina
Let me double check Where's our road trip playlist?
[00:35:46.090] - Adrienne
"Top down, radio up."
[00:35:49.630] - Katarina
Let me listen to it really fast because I think I actually might know the song.
[00:35:53.850] - Adrienne
Alright, listeners, playing that again.
[00:35:59.450] - Katarina
Trying again.
[00:36:00.350] - Adrienne
We are trying again.
[00:36:01.370] - Katarina
This time with "Live & Let Go"
[00:36:03.820] - Adrienne
By Paper & Places.
[00:36:06.460] - Katarina
We got this, maybe.
[00:36:08.430] - Adrienne
It's a good song.
[00:36:10.110] - Katarina
See if we do it better.
[00:36:12.400] - Adrienne
And. Alright, you know what I will say, as I'm rolling the dice again.
[00:36:17.510] - Katarina
Yeah.
[00:36:18.580] - Adrienne
I think to help us, let's talk about the vibe of the song, which for me, that song... It's a song that listeners, if you remember way back in the olden times, we did an episode where we talked about road trip songs.
[00:36:39.000] - Katarina
Mmhmm.
[00:36:39.000] - Adrienne
And this is a song that's on that playlist. So the song has big road trip, fun, carefree energy.
[00:36:49.670] - Katarina
Also, "I'm running away from home."
[00:36:53.500] - Adrienne
It also has a bit of a running away... I also get like, there's also a bit of like eleventh hour "forgive me" kind of energy to that song.
[00:37:07.670] - Katarina
Yep.
[00:37:08.200] - Adrienne
So just things for us to keep in mind, as we're telling our story. All right. Okay. Alright! Okay. So.
[00:37:27.530] - Katarina
Uh-oh.
[00:37:30.440] - Adrienne
We've got a magnet. A rainbow. A tent/Teepee... Uh...arrows? Snowflake? What do you want to call that?
[00:37:52.180] - Katarina
It looks like a spoke with lots of arrows coming out of it. Could mean a lot of things, but that will probably end up being my dice. So it's okay.
[00:38:04.920] - Adrienne
Yeah. Dealer's choice on that.
[00:38:07.090] - Katarina
I'll think of something.
[00:38:09.080] - Adrienne
We have a house. We have scales.
[00:38:16.020] - Katarina
Ah.
[00:38:16.020] - Adrienne
Like the justice scales. We have a moon, our good old friend, the Scarab Beetle, and then an airplane.
[00:38:28.620] - Katarina
The plane!
[00:38:30.000] - Adrienne
So. Who's going first this time?
[00:38:37.940] - Katarina
If you want me to have to deal with the spokes of arrows, you have to go first.
[00:38:42.460] - Adrienne
I have to go first?
[00:38:44.500] - Katarina
Yeah, because it's 1, 2, 3, 4.
[00:38:46.480] - Adrienne
Got you. Alright, I'll go first.
[00:38:48.810] - Katarina
We get my timer, we get my trustee timer.
[00:38:53.560] - Adrienne
Okay.
[00:38:54.790] - Katarina
Which is just my cell phone. Clock. Okay. Two minutes on the clock in three, two, one. Try saying "Once upon a time."
[00:39:11.030] - Adrienne
Okay. (long pause) Why does nothing ever seem to work out for our dear friend...Annalisa?
[00:39:33.370] - Katarina
Okay. Okay.
[00:39:38.770] - Adrienne
These are the kind of thoughts that run through her head every day as she stares out the window of her small but quaint... city apartment... In some sort of state that I don't know. Um. Um. Uh...um...
[00:40:07.920] - Katarina
Oh my God.
[00:40:09.630] - Adrienne
Oregon.
[00:40:10.230] - Katarina
You have a minute.
[00:40:10.830] - Adrienne
Oregon! Oregon. She stares out at the garden and wonders what on Earth she should do with herself, when suddenly she feels pulled. Almost like a magnet.
[00:40:27.160] - Katarina
(snorts)
[00:40:30.760] - Adrienne
Towards the door.
[00:40:32.640] - Katarina
Okay.
[00:40:33.910] - Adrienne
There's something inside of her pulling her out the front door, instead of sulking with her cup of tea at the window. How much time do I have?
[00:40:46.620] - Katarina
You have 19 seconds.
[00:40:49.400] - Adrienne
So she places her hand on the handle and turns, turns the door handle, pushes the door open and embarks on a strange journey... That little does she know...is going to--
[00:41:07.690] - Katarina
Time.
[00:41:10.300] - Adrienne
There you go.
[00:41:12.080] - Katarina
Great. So she's pulled outside.
[00:41:14.810] - Adrienne
Like a magnet!
[00:41:17.750] - Katarina
Like a magnet. Thank you so much. Okay, well, I'm ready. Ready for your timer?
[00:41:32.310] - Adrienne
You're welcome. Go.
[00:41:35.280] - Katarina
Okay. So Analisa, right? Annalisa? Our intrepid heroine...
[00:41:46.410] - Adrienne
(snorts)
[00:41:46.410] - Katarina
Has been pulled outside. And what does she see when she's outside? But a beautiful rainbow. In fact, so close she could almost touch it. Which is weird because when she was in the third grade, she distinctly remembers her elementary school science teacher telling her that rainbows are refractive light from rain drops and that they are not physical. But this rainbow, this rainbow looks solid and has a definitive end, even. So, she takes a few steps closer and she realizes that it is indeed solid. She goes to approach and touch it when all of a sudden, someone jumps out of the bushes at her. (laughs) Why am I so fond of telling people jumping out bushes today? I don't know. But the little ginger man that jumps out of the--(laughs) How much time?
[00:43:05.340] - Adrienne
28 seconds.
[00:43:09.750] - Katarina
"Young lady, please don't be touching me magical rainbow, because it's important to me that you don't touch my mode of transportation." And now I've become Scottish.
[00:43:27.320] - Adrienne
Oh my God...Oh, my God. Alright.
[00:43:38.740] - Katarina
You're welcome.
[00:43:39.680] - Adrienne
You had to put a leprechaun on in the story.
[00:43:44.200] - Katarina
She's pulled outside magnetically?!
[00:43:50.720] - Adrienne
By a leprechaun?
[00:43:53.550] - Katarina
By a leprechaun!
[00:43:56.870] - Adrienne
By a leprechaun. Alright, okay. Alright. Thank you. Thank you, Katia. Thank you for that. What am I supposed to do with the fucking lep--
[00:44:15.380] - Katarina
I don't know, you've got a tent now. Teepee!
[00:44:18.050] - Adrienne
Alright, time me.
[00:44:21.280] - Katarina
Start.
[00:44:26.000] - Adrienne
So when Annalisa woke up this morning encountering a leprechaun was, quite literally, the last thing she ever expected to happen. And yet here he was, standing before her... (derisive lip smack) a leprechaun. So she stares blankly at this leprechaun, stunned. Stunned! "I did not even realize leprechauns were real," she says, partially to herself and partially to the leprechaun standing in front of her. To which the leprechaun replies, "yes, yes, we are. Thank you very much. Now will you please leave me to my business as I am very late for an important meeting on the other side of the rainbow." She nods, wondering what on Earth, magical wonderful business, this fine young gentleman could have.
[00:45:48.260] - Katarina
30 seconds.
[00:45:52.650] - Adrienne
When suddenly just beyond the leprechaun, she sees a tent...Nearby.
[00:46:01.250] - Katarina
Brilliant.
[00:46:03.150] - Adrienne
And it catches her eye. And she asks the leprechaun, "do you see that tent over there?" And he says, "yes, but I have far too many things today to worry about the tents of mortal men. So I bid you adieu."
[00:46:22.470] - Katarina
You're done.
[00:46:22.470] - Adrienne
And off the leprechaun goes and forward, Annalisa ventures.
[00:46:29.020] - Katarina
I can't believe I gave you a leprechaun, and you immediately threw the leprechaun out.
[00:46:36.150] - Adrienne
What am I supposed to do with a leprechaun?
[00:46:37.151] - Katarina
I don't--
[00:46:37.160] - Adrienne
What am I supposed to do with a leprechaun?
[00:46:39.740] - Katarina
I gave you a leprechaun, on a rainbow platter. And you threw him out instantly. Also, it was great because you were like "the leprechaun... That... Appeared. The lep--you know, the leprechaun?"
[00:46:55.790] - Adrienne
It...yeah.
[00:46:58.050] - Katarina
It's like "the Cuzco's poison. Poison for Cuzco." Alright.
[00:47:09.360] - Adrienne
You threw me with a fucking leprechaun...Jesus...
[00:47:09.360] - Katarina
Yup. Alright. Time me.
[00:47:13.410] - Adrienne
Okay. Go.
[00:47:15.070] - Katarina
Arrow... Spoke wheel thing. So, Annalisa bids an unfortunate adieu to the leprechaun, who was only there for no reason, I guess. And walked up to the tent. Inside the tent came a voice. "Oh, come in, young lady. Come in and I will tell your fortune." It's an old woman! That's weird, Annalisa thinks to herself, but doesn't say that because of course, telling people that they're weird for being in the Woods is quite rude and nobody should do that. So Annalisa steps in, thankful for the invitation, and sees a woman seated at a table covered with a fine delicate cloth. "Would you like me to read your fortune, Annalisa?" Now Annalisa thinks that this is very strange because she's never seen this woman before in her life and she has no idea how this old woman knows that her name is Annalisa. But she shrugs and says, "Well, I've already met a leprechaun today. What's the worst that could happen?" And so she agrees. The woman begins to pull out her deck of cards and shuffles them and says, "I can already tell that you are dissatisfied with your life. And that there are many paths that you have been presented with, that you wish to take... That you want to run away from home, so to speak, and just live and let go. And I understand that feeling. It's a restlessness that only some of us get in this life." And she begins to pull cards. The first being the wheel of fortune, upright. "This means, child, that things are good with you. They're on the up and up. You should take chances while fortune is with you, because as you all know, the wheel never ceases to turn, hahaha." She chuckles--
[00:49:17.620] - Adrienne
That was time.
[00:49:18.920] - Katarina
Okay.
[00:49:19.200] - Adrienne
But I'll let you finish your thought.
[00:49:21.110] - Katarina
I was gonna say, she wakes up and the tent's gone!
[00:49:24.190] - Adrienne
...Oh.
[00:49:25.200] - Katarina
Tent disappears.
[00:49:29.940] - Adrienne
Wait. The woman's gone?
[00:49:31.930] - Katarina
The woman's gone. Woman's gone, tent's gone, Annalisa's sitting in the wood by herself.
[00:49:36.680] - Adrienne
God damn it. Okay. Okay. Alright.
[00:49:46.240] - Katarina
Mmhmm?
[00:49:47.790] - Adrienne
It's fine. Got it. Okay. She's alone. In the woods. By herself... In the woods.
[00:49:56.420] - Katarina
I gave you a leprechaun. You spurned the leprechaun.
[00:50:00.570] - Adrienne
You took away my tent.
[00:50:03.740] - Katarina
I took away your tent.
[00:50:03.740] - Adrienne
Fine. That's fine. That's fine. Alright.
[00:50:09.610] - Katarina
Go.
[00:50:14.000] - Adrienne
"What on Earth was that?" Annalisa thinks to herself as she looks up at the blank sky, realizing that the old woman and the tent have miraculously disappeared. And curiously enough it feels like a strange fever dream... that she had. But alas! As she fumbles around... Her... Fumbles around the ground beside her, she suddenly notices a note... Neatly folded beside her, and she picks it up. And suddenly, she also spots next to the note, it's that real Fortune card that the old woman had pulled for her. "So it wasn't a fever dream. It happened," she says. "Interesting." And she opens the notes and looks down and it reads, "Walk through the forest. And when you get to the other edge of the forest, at the end of the street ahead you will see a house."
[00:51:36.660] - Katarina
30 seconds.
[00:51:38.800] - Adrienne
"That house will lead you on a journey beyond your wildest imagination. Go to it, my child." And just as she finishes reading the note, it disappears. Poof! Gone. And so Annalisa stares up into the sky, stands, and looks out at the forest before her.
[00:52:18.810] - Katarina
(sarcastically) That helps me.
[00:52:20.610] - Adrienne
Good! I'm glad. I'm glad.
[00:52:28.660] - Katarina
(Laughs) Shit. Scales of justice. Okay.
[00:52:32.600] - Adrienne
Alright. And... Are you ready?
[00:52:36.290] - Katarina
No. Go for it.
[00:52:37.660] - Adrienne
Go.
[00:52:40.100] - Katarina
So Annalisa does indeed follow the path through the forest, thinking as she does so how nice it is to escape from the normal sea of life in her magnet shop from the beginning of the story, selling magnets to the hipsters in Oregon. And she enjoys the feeling of the soft wind on her cheeks and the... And the summer breeze that makes her feel fine. But at the end of the path she sees the house, the house that was foretold to her by the woman, who told her that this would be the path to adventure and to the self discovery. And the house, as she approaches it, is made of candy. Aha! (laughs) And then she realizes, "oh shit. I've fallen into some... Magical bullshit to help me discover myself and become a stronger person! Why can't I just live and let go?" She whines to herself. But the scales of her fate are unbalanced because Annalisa has hit a tipping point in her life and she needs to live before she can go back to the mundane world. How much time?
[00:54:33.550] - Adrienne
Um. You have... 3 seconds. Okay. Um. What just happened? She's in a house of candy?
[00:54:49.370] - Katarina
She saw the house. She didn't go in the house. She's just like, "this is some bullshit."
[00:54:55.040] - Adrienne
Okay...
[00:54:55.640] - Katarina
"I don't want to be here." And she's like, "I got to trust the old woman, but I don't want to." Anyway, you ready?
[00:55:08.470] - Adrienne
I'm ready.
[00:55:09.430] - Katarina
Okay, go.
[00:55:13.280] - Adrienne
So Annalisa stares at this strange candy house, and as much as there is a part of her that is unsettled and doesn't want to go inside of the house, she looks up to the sky and realizes it's nighttime now, and the moon hangs in the sky. So she decides, "Well, I've come all this way through the forest. It's already late and I fear it might get cold soon. So I will go inside. Why it's cold in the summer in Oregon? I don't know. But you never know." So she goes inside the candy house and it is in fact made of candy. The walls are a wonderful milk chocolate brown... Because they're Hershey Bars. And... There is wonderful rock candy crown molding accents throughout. It's all very puzzling and rather delicious, she decides. And she takes a bite out of the door frame.
[00:56:40.240] - Katarina
(laughs)
[00:56:43.940] - Adrienne
But as she's looking through this wonderful candy wonderland, she suddenly notices a man sitting in the corner.
[00:56:57.560] - Katarina
Mmhmm... A man.
[00:57:00.770] - Adrienne
A kind-faced man. He doesn't look evil or even threatened by her. He's just sitting there calmly. Enjoying--
[00:57:10.550] - Katarina
You're done. I'll let you finish your thought, though.
[00:57:14.430] - Adrienne
(laughs) Enjoying his beautiful candy house and happy to see this new strapping stranger has joined him... for tea.
[00:57:23.400] - Katarina
Eating his candy house. Okay, alright.
[00:57:29.300] - Adrienne
Alright!
[00:57:31.480] - Katarina
Okay.
[00:57:32.320] - Adrienne
I don't know.
[00:57:33.530] - Katarina
They're in a candy house. They're eating. Alright.
[00:57:36.610] - Adrienne
Okay. And... You ready?
[00:57:39.520] - Katarina
Yep.
[00:57:41.140] - Adrienne
Go!
[00:57:41.140] - Katarina
Okay. So Annalisa is at first a little more than shocked to see another human being in the candy house, especially one so handsome and long haired, and not an evil witch that she first thought she would find. Because why wouldn't she find an evil witch in a candy house in the forest? "I'm Frederick," says the man sitting at the table. "Please join me for a spot of tea, dear." He's not British. I just want to talk that way. So Annalisa sits down, because it would be rude after she broke into a man's house and ate his doorframe. And she asks him. "Oh, I see," he says. "You were expecting maybe a witch. But that's really a harmful stereotype. You see, I'm not a witch. I'm not even a human being at all. I am secretly a giant scarab beetle, a magical scare beetle. But I have chosen to live life as a human. Out of curiosity, don't humans all live in candy houses such as this one?" And Annalisa says, "no, no. In fact, this is a health hazard, in many cases. The construction quality alone would crumble at the first sign of a Hurricane." And Frederick says, "no, no, no. This is a magic candy house. Anyway. Why are you in my kitchen eating my door frame? As much as I love the company?" Annalisa says, "Well, I was told by-- I was pulled out of my magnet shop by a leprechaun, almost magnetically. And then I met an old woman in the woods who told me that fortune was with me and I should run away from home and go explore. And that's led me here to your strange candy house." And Frederick says, "Well, that's quite exciting, isn't it? Seems like you're on an adventure." And Annalisa says, "yes, but I want to know where I'm going. I want to know what's my end point? What am I meant to learn?" And Frederick winks at her and says, "Perhaps you're not meant to end up in any particular place at all. And you're just meant to go."
[00:59:49.900] - Adrienne
Time.
[00:59:52.180] - Katarina
Okay?
[00:59:54.320] - Adrienne
Alright. Okay, right. I can do this.
[01:00:05.840] - Katarina
Last one, last cube.
[01:00:07.560] - Adrienne
Okay.
[01:00:08.910] - Katarina
Your turn.
[01:00:10.800] - Adrienne
Alright.
[01:00:10.800] - Katarina
Go.
[01:00:15.610] - Adrienne
Annalisa ponders this a moment. It sits well with her. She stares kindly at the man and says, "you know, in the midst of this crazy day, I think you've been the first person that I felt I can trust." And Frederick... Frederick is thankful for this. He smiles fondly at this girl and he says, "Well, I don't know much about witches or leprechauns or things such as fate. But you do happen to be in the right place at the right time. See, I'm dying."
[01:01:07.220] - Katarina
OH!
[01:01:14.730] - Adrienne
"I'm dying. And I'm also the King of my Beetles. And without me, there will be a void of leadership. Because my darling son was killed in a terrible, terrible accident involving a ill-placed foot--"
[01:01:46.340] - Katarina
30 seconds.

"--In a convenience store. So I would like you to take on the mantle of Queen and protect my beetles. So will you do this?" Annalisa sighs. And she says, "yes, I will do this for you, Frederick, because you have been so kind to me today." And so he gives her a plane ticket, then says, "Go here and you will be picked up. Protect my beetles. Protect them well! Thank you, Annalisa. Queen Annalisa, may you reign forever and let all my beetles live... and let go."
[01:02:38.290] - Katarina
(laughs)
[01:02:43.340] - Adrienne
The end.
[01:02:46.640] - Katarina
She got called to be Queen of the Beetles. (laughs) (sings) It's been hard day's night! Oh, my God.
[01:03:08.080] - Adrienne
I'm dying.
[01:03:11.100] - Katarina
This one was funny. This one was good. I liked this strange story that somehow flowed better and worse than the... (laughs) What happened here today?
[01:03:29.580] - Adrienne
Um... Did we succeed?
[01:03:30.790] - Katarina
I think we did better with this one. Only because we kept talking about running away and also living and letting go.
[01:03:43.410] - Adrienne
Giving in to the flow of life.
[01:03:46.750] - Katarina
To the journey. It's about the journey, not the destination. I think we kind of succeeded.
[01:03:56.270] - Adrienne
I don't know, Listeners, you can be the judge of that. You'll probably be like, "what the hell was this?"
[01:04:01.250] - Katarina
You got a two for one this time, Listeners, be happy about it. We'll be back with another fun summer game story very soon. So stay tuned for that.
[01:04:15.500] - Adrienne
Yeah. And let us know if you liked...this. If this was fun for you.
[01:04:22.320] - Katarina
Mmhmm. Because it was fun for us.
[01:04:25.150] - Adrienne
It was fun for us. So, yeah, if you have any recommendations of songs we should do next. Let us know.
[01:04:35.450] - Katarina
We'll be playing this game all summer long for as long as it lasts. So... Stay tuned.
[01:04:43.540] - Adrienne
Yeah. Hopefully it will get better at being thematically accurate.
[01:04:59.710] - Katarina
No promises. But we hope.
[01:05:03.110] - Adrienne
You would hope. They say practice makes perfect. So... We'd hope.
[01:05:11.700] - Katarina
By the end of this, we're going to give you one, really good, thematically consistent story.
[01:05:18.820] - Adrienne
That's the goal, at least one.
[01:05:21.900] - Katarina
At least one.
[01:05:23.310] - Adrienne
If we do all these and we don't get one... Listeners, this now, you see, is why our actual show script takes time. These stories that we write for the show do not get written...
[01:05:46.180] - Katarina
In 30 seconds.
[01:05:47.970] - Adrienne
In 30 seconds. (sighs) Okay. Bye!
[01:05:55.970] - Katarina
Bye.
