Weekend Round Up: New Releases From San Fermin and Classixx
Miss us? We’re back with a brand new season of Rhapsody in Reverie for you! And in addition to gracing the podcasting airwaves again, we couldn’t resist sharing a few of the new songs that came out this past weekend that we couldn’t get enough of! Read on below to hear some of co-host Adrienne’s favorites of the moment!
“Freedom (Yeah Yeah!)” By San Fermin
San Fermin has finally released Part II to The Cormorant and there’s so much to love about every single track (seriously listen to the whole thing) but I’m gonna pace myself and just talk about “Freedom (Yeah Yeah)” right now. Musically, this song is fun and free with an uplifting chorus of yeah yeahs, the triumphant horns and an arrangement that fills you with hope from start to finish. Yet, as someone prone to falling deep into stories and songs, what I love most about “Freedom (Yeah Yeah)” is the message - this idea that there is freedom in accepting where you are over pure escapism. “Freedom (Yeah Yeah)” is a rousing call to arms to let go of the fictions we create for ourselves to cope with the things we’d rather not face so we can make the most of everything we have. We all need stories and places to explore within our imagination from time to time, but San Fermin reminds us, with this song, to find the same freedom of imagination and exploration in your reality. That is how we truly live and feel connected and alive. Within the context of The Cormorant, “Freedom (Yeah, Yeah)” feels like the final breakthrough of the fourth wall, and in this moment, the beautiful world of great black seabirds and prophetic dreams that San Fermin has created for us in the first part of The Cormorant is brought back to the reality that is the conversation between artist and listener. Music at its best inspires and changes the listener. Songs stir you to want to author your life’s memories to their soundtrack and that’s what “Freedom (Yeah, Yeah)” challenges you to do - in truly bombastic fashion. After all, the greatest story is the one of your life and that’s a story that is always unpredictable.
“One More Song (ft. Roosevelt)” By Classixx
If Classixx is a name you have not heard before and an artist you have not checked out, please let this be your opportunity to fix that because I love them so much. They’ve always made chill grooves that were equal parts disco and contemporary house and electronic music, and “One More Song” is no exception. If Daft Punk makes intergalactic disco music, Classixx makes the soundtracks for the clubs in the underwater city of Atlantis. “One More Song” is filled with a timeless magic and mystery that make disco bass grooves like this so infectious. Listening to this song makes me wish I was a DJ because it would be an honor and a pleasure to watch a crowd loosen up and get carried away by the pulsing rhythm and Roosevelt’s easy crooning vocals. Because who doesn’t love just one more song on a beautiful night out in the summertime. If one song’s all I got left on the dancefloor, I’d be glad it’s this one.
